Widescreen Laptop Notebook
i want to buy a great laptop for under $700, something with a bang for each buck. any ideas?
i saw a Gateway 14.1″ Widescreen Notebook PC (MT3423) for $650 and an Acer Aspire 5610 15.4″ Widescreen Laptop PC w/ Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor T2080 for $678
are they any good?
There are plenty of good ones out there for about $700. Gateway is pretty good as is Acer. However…do not buy one with a Pentium Dual-Core processor. What you want is the Intel Core 2 Duo or Centrino Duo processor. The Pentium Dual Cores were the 1st generation of dual core chips and not very good. The Core 2 Duo (sometimes called Centrino Duo) is a quantum leap in technology over the Pentium Duo and only cost a few bucks more. They are faster, cooler and are more energy efficient (longer battery life) than the Pentium Duals.
To get the most bang for your buck, just make sure its has the following:
Intel Core 2 Duo or Centrino Duo chip (T7000 or T5000 series).
2 GB of RAM
SATA Hard Drive
CD/DVD Burner
