Mesh Case
Is it possible to build a mesh case to prevent heat?
Would this be harmful to the computer in any way, or would it even help the cooling issue?
If you have a computer for gaming with bad airflow, yeah that would definitely help. I bought a custom made Dual Core 3.6 ghz with a 256mb Nvidia video card and the computer overheated constantly over the summer.
The only way it’d be bad for the computer is more dust would get in. While this sounds harmless, dust is often a large contributor to overheating since it clogs the fans and obstructs airflow. Please keep in mind you’ll have to clear your computer of dust extremely often. What would actually help the most though is if you got a heatsink and a larger fan. When my computer kept overheating, I made sure it was in a spot that wasn’t in the corner of the room or under a desk where it traps the hot air near the computer, making it recycle the hot air. I also just opened the computer and left it open – it actually stopped overheating after that.
Basically then, yes a mesh cover would do pretty much the same thing I did but maybe even better: give much better airflow.
