Laptop Wireless Wifi
what is the difference between a wifi laptop and a wireless laptop and do you need to have a telephone line?

do you need a telephone line to use either laptop?

WiFi and wireless are one in the same.

Depending upon what you want to accomplish, a telephone line isn’t necessarily needed. The wireless adapter in your computer is capable of grabbing a signal from any wireless connection that is being broadcast, say a “hot spot” at your local truck stop or maybe McDonald’s. Hot spots are everywhere but not always free and accessible.

You can also get Internet access through a wireless carrier such as At&t or Verizon. But that’s kind of pricey. Probably around $50 per month or thereabouts.

If you want Internet access at home and all the time, it will require a telephone line for DSL, or cable such as Charter Communication or Roadrunner. (Aside from the aforementioned wireless ISP of course.)

Technically you could get wireless access from a neighbor that is broadcasting his signal, as long as it is close enough. This isn’t recommended however, for several reasons. First of all it’s stealing if he doesn’t know about it. And even if he/she does know about it, it’s still stealing from whatever ISP is supplying the Internet to them. (They tend to frown on such practices.) Secondly, it’s probably not going to be very reliable. If there is a problem with your signal you have no recourse whatsoever. If the signal suddenly stops because, oh say the neighbor decides to encrypt it, you’re pretty much screwed. Like I said, it’s possible but you really don’t want to go there!
