Ibm Thinkpad Iseries

Can you help me with an old IBM iSeries ThinkPad!!?
A friend of mine gave me an old IBM laptop with Windows 2000 Professional installed. It was previously owned by a large corporation who upgraded their system. My problem is I don’t have the password to be able to log in. I have no original software or anything. Can I reformat the computer with a different version of Windows and not need a password? I know it’s not much of a computer but I thought my kids could at least play with it. It powers up to where you need a password to log into Windows but that is as far as I can get. Can I hack into it somehow?
Michael, I tried to do what you said. Windows begins loading, a screen pops up to press ctrl-alt-delete to begin. When I do that another screen pops up to log on to Windows. It asks for a user name and password. I tried to type the stuff you said and it is not working. What am I doing wrong?

Yes. When you reinstall an operating system, you reformat the whole hard drive, which deletes all files and passwords off of the drive from the previous owner/ os. Once you do that, and then reinstall the different operating system, you will be able to freely and clearly access the computer, where by you can set your own passwords, accounts, etc. I refurbish and resell computers as a hobby/business, and I have had to do this many times. You can email me if you would like or need to know more info on this matter. Otherwise, good luck to you.
