Duo Laptop Notebook
Can I put a core i7 in a core 2 duo compatible laptop?

I am looking in to building my own laptop from this shell.

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/diy_notebooks/ocz_diy_15-gaming_notebook-small-intel-nvidia_edition.

It specs say that its motherboard calls for a core 2 duo processor, but I did some research and the spec sheet hasn’t been updated since 2008. I figured that if it is compatible with an core i7 that it would have been left out. So really what I need to know is “do the two types of processors require the same socket?” Please help…
Update: Just to clear up the confusion, I am not upgrading! The shell, that I linked to , does not come with a CPU. It suggests a core 2 duo. AND seeing as how the specs on that shell was dated I wanted to know if other processors have been developed for that socket… Perhaps a quad core. Should I assume that a mother board only is compatible with one type of CPU? Is there any other suggestions for DIY laptops that can utilize a i core 7 processor.

no, it will not fit a core i7, it physically won’t fit, it’s a different socket, and the bios wouldn’t recognize it anyway.
