Case Nylon
Grades of nylon 600D vs. 840D?

Can someone tell how nylon is graded? I’m looking at some luggage and one is made with 600D nylon and the other with 840D nylon. Which one is stronger/thicker? Logic tells me that 840D is, but that is not always the case when you don’t know what you’re talking about. Thanks.

D in this case stands for “denier”, which is basically a unit of thickness of the threads (it’s really a unit of linear density, but if you’re comparing the same material, it functions as a measure of thickness).

It’s defined – rather arbitrarily – as how many grams 9,000m of the thread weigh (as opposed to the “tex”, which is how many grams 10,000m weigh).

So yes, 840D is thicker thread than 600D.
