Case Msi Wind
I’ve dropped my netbook…?

A few minutes ago I dropped my MSI wind. The only visible physical deformity that I’ve noticed is a small bump on the side to the right of the keyboard but other than that, nothing. This one has a mechanical hard drive so the first thing that would suffer from a drop would be that.

The netbook was zipped in its case when it happened, but I had it in my rucksack which was full of other heavy things too. After all, netbooks are meant for travelling! At the moment all looks OK (I’m writing this from the very same netbook) but I wanted to ask whether a failure in hard disks sometimes presents itself later, rather than sooner when you drop a pc/laptop/netbook? What are normally the signs you look at? Multiple efforts to read a disk sector? Loss of data? Thanks in advance.

Get a utility that will check the SMART status of the hard drive. See the link in my sources for some free utilities to do so. It will show you diagnostic information about your drive and you can keep tabs on it.
