Case Handle

If you suffer from panic attacks, you will have probably already researched possible treatments. Many people who suffer from panic attacks will have tried many things before seeking professional help. This is frequently because they believe modern society is still intolerant toward certain illnesses. It is widely believed that the only cures available for panic or anxiety disorders are drug-based. This is most definitely not the case.
Non-drug treatments for panic attacks have been found to be as effective as pharmaceuticals for many people, and have the added bonus of no side effects. Medical professionals often use these therapies in conjunction with drug therapy to relieve symptoms.
There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for panic attacks, since the causes vary. Past emotional stress, biological or chemical deficiencies and even overwhelming daily stress can cause these attacks.
Non-drug therapies that can work well in treating panic attacks are hypnosis, cognitive and behavioural therapy, energy psychology and desensitization. These therapies work quite quickly compared to solely drug therapy, and have a much longer lasting effect.
Hypnosis, recognized as a therapy by the AMA, can both ease and cure panic attacks. It basically allows your mind to perceive sensations differently, and allows you to focus your mind to control or affect the body in a positive and relaxing way.
Energy psychology involves changing the flow of energy through the body, which can then trigger chemical changes as well. Acupuncture, acupressure, tapping and reflexology are methods to change the body’s energy flow. Because people can learn and apply some of these therapies themselves, they can receive immediate relief from panic symptoms.
The most familiar non-drug therapy is cognitive-behavioral therapy. With cognitive therapy, you are led to viewing your beliefs and dominant thoughts more realistically. Once thoughts and beliefs are recognized, then behaviour therapy is used to help face fears in a controlled situation. By experiencing the panic situation in a controlled and supervised way, the patient is led in small steps through the situation or panic. Throughout the experience, feelings and emotions are aroused, felt and accepted, once one realizes that they can’t harm.
Desensitization therapy is similar to behaviour therapy, in that the patient is led through a panic situation in small steps. However, it is imagined or visualized, rather than a real-life situation. By imagining worst case scenarios each step of the way, and led toward more positive outcomes, the patient learns to face and eliminate the fear without panic.
Life habit changes can help control or even eliminate panic attacks. Some of the simple steps one can take are learning breath control, meditation, humor, deliberate thought control, exercise and nutrition. By adopting life habit changes, the symptoms of panic attacks can be reduced. They have worked for many people. Explore the therapies above, and your panic attacks can be cured; your quality of life can be renewed.
