My computer screen is dark?
I have a dell laptop. Its almost 2 years old. I took it to italy and it was in my bag i dropped it not so high, it was on top of my suit case and it fell. when i turned it on it was dark i opened and closed it and it was bright again. if i shaked the screen to much it would go black so i would have to shut it down to get the bright screen back, it lasted a few weeks. but now it just stoped working and i cant seem to get the bright screen back. I tryed shutting it down and closing and opening it even replaced the screen which was very expensive. right now i have a lamp on my screen to see, it helps a little but still very dark. anyone know whats wrong with it?
The backlight, which looks like a teeny tiny fluorescent light, is failing, either because of age or because of the fall. There is also a high voltage power supply called an inverter in there that could have been knocked loose or come into contact with metal, shorting it out. This is a problem that can be fixed for under $50 in parts by a skilled repair tech, but the textbook solution is to replace the entire display. Someone who knows what he’s doing can do this job in an hour. Do not let your little brother’s friend, who knows everything about computers and works on his own all the time, make this repair. There are a lot of tiny screws that need to go back in the right holes.
You may be able to find an entire working display with a good backlight on eBay for a decent price.
