Attache Briefcase

The Attache Case: Now and Then
The attache case is otherwise known as the briefcase. The latter term originated from the fact that most of the people who used this kind of bag are lawyers – as a way of carrying briefs (legal documents). Still, today, you can see that the attache case is not only used by lawyers. Traveling salespeople and even professors and corporate executives use a briefcase to bring important documents and files from one location to another.
But did you know that the attache case takes its roots from the satchel? A satchel is a bag used to carry books and other things. But unlike its predecessor, the attache case offers a lot of pouches and pockets for better file management.
An attache case is usually box-like in shape. It has locks – whether in the form of combination locks or zippers. The locks are an important feature of your briefcase as naturally, you don’t want other people hovering over your files. Also, you don’t want your attache case to accidentally open while you’re in the middle of a busy street or in a full-packed train. Now, this would be very embarrassing.
One of the primary features of attache cases today is the availability of multiple pockets or pouches. In addition to the main opening, your modern attache case has small and medium other pockets will be perfect for storing smaller things such as business cards, passports and identification cards. With this, you may already want to toss your men’s executive wallets away.
In addition, your attache case is also a great storage for your phone and other handheld electronic devices. Because these briefcases are rather sturdy, they will be able to provide your precious little gadgets the appropriate support and protection from stress (i.e. bumps, water).
But today, the term attache case is almost overshadowed by another label: the laptop attache. Yes, more and more people are starting to use this type of bag primarily because almost every working professional carries a laptop – may it be company issued or personally purchased.
As always, words get in the way. In this case, the laptop attache is actually just the attache case that has a special compartment for your beloved MacBook. It also has a special pocket for your laptop’s charger and your mouse. See, as mentioned, words really got in the way… at least against the laid back attache case.
Then and now. Before, people use messenger-like bags otherwise called the satchel to carry their files and documents. Then, came the briefcase, whose existence is highly attributable to the debates that are happening in the courtrooms. At about the same time, the attache case has risen. The most luxurious and probably the most durable of which is the leather attache case. And then, as the computer age took hold of the world, laptop attaches, like wild horses, trampled these traditional attache cases.
Still, whatever time zone you are in, and whatever the term you use to refer to this “professional bag,” you’ll realize the attache case is here to stay. Its name may change, but for sure, its function and use will always remain the same…
